Summer Reads Collection offers literary adventures

Summer Reads Collection offers literary adventures

Following the vibrant display of colourful butterflies that adorned our walls for Pride Month, we’re looking forward to spending the blistering summer days curled up under the cool shade of an aging, majestic weeping willow with our favourite Summer Reads.

In case you missed it: The butterfly wall at Scott Library during June's Pride Month book display.

The Summer Reads book collection includes titles for fans of all genres, to be enjoyed on the beach, by the pool or on the way to one of your long-awaited summer destinations. Whatever the occasion may be, browse our collection to find the perfect companion to accompany you on your literary adventures this summer.

Included in our Summer Reads list this year is Factory Summers written by Guy Delisle. Set in Quebec City, this coming-of age story brings readers back to the nostalgic days of their first summer jobs. While the factory setting may not be familiar to all, the awkwardness of being an outsider (teenager) in a grown-up’s world pulls at heartstrings old and young. Guy’s journey through his summer job reminds us of the gusto and determination we all had while trying to figure out the world (and our futures) during our first jobs.

Alternatively, if you’re looking for something with a little more suspense, Lucy Foley’s The Guest List marries a summer wedding with the perfect murder mystery. Set off the coast of Ireland, The Guest List follows the careful curation of a magazine publisher’s branded, sponsored wedding to a rising television star. Read along as the typical wedding drama unfolds with a smattering of whodunnit sprinkled in.

Our Summer Reads list offers the chance to discover new authors, revisit old favourites, and make this summer a season of unforgettable reading adventures. We hope it inspires your next adventure.

You can find our selection of popular summer picks in the lobbies of Scott and Frost libraries, available until August 15.
