Our business librarians are excited to remind you about a room, bearing quite a few resource treasures, to be found on the right when you enter the Business Library. This is our Reference Room, where you find many useful resources for in-library use, and this is our second post in the series “Bronfman Reference Collection Unearthed” which we compile with the goal of showcasing this collection and building business students’ familiarity with the golden nuggets of knowledge this collection contains which may just offer that perfect piece of yet- unfound- information for an assignment or project!
Our featured resource this time is called The Directory of Canadian Healthcare Personnel (16th ed, 2014) and can be found at call number RA 978 C3 2014. We anticipate that this will be especially useful for students working with health-related organizations as part of their 601 Strategy Field Study or enrolled in courses in Schulich’s acclaimed Health Industry Management Program or HIMP. Beyond Schulich, students studying health topics in the Faculty of Health or elsewhere may also benefit from using this resource.

There is quite a wealth of information contained in this resource and we encourage you to come in and check it out. But for now here are some examples of what it contains which we hope piques your interest!

• Names of key personnel and no. of staff in a range of healthcare organizations including hospitals, long term care facilities, home care facilities/organizations and medical clinics and laboratories. This includes roles ranging from Presidents/CEOs to HR managers to purchasing managers and clinical staff.
• Names, coordinates and profiles of healthcare organizations all over Canada by geographic location including hospitals, long term care facilities, home care facilities/organizations and medical clinics and laboratories
• Specific data and facts about Canadian hospitals located in one handy place, e.g. total no. of beds, live births/yr, patient visits, types of special units, overall budget, equipment information, e.g. no. of radiation treatment machines etc.
• Useful facts about long term care facilities, e.g. no. of residents, new admissions/yr, rate range, average waiting period, no. of beds etc.
• Useful information about laboratories and clinics across Canada including clinic type, the lab tests and procedures they offer, as well as clinic specialities.
