Your Library Card

Please note: If you are unable to access electronic resources, make sure that you have applied for and received your YU-card, which is required to access the libraries' electronic resources and for borrowing physical materials. Information on acquiring the YU-card is below.

If you have a YU-card, and continue to experience difficulty please:

  • Check the expiry date. If your card is expired, please apply for a new card.
  • Ensure that your digital YU-card is downloaded to your mobile device's wallet.
  • Ensure you have not tried to download your digital YU-card on more than one device. If your YU-card is locked because you tried to download it on more than one device, please contact the YU-card office.
  • If you have recently received your plastic YU-card, or recently downloaded your digital YU Card to your device's wallet, please wait 24 hours for our library system to be updated.

If you have a current YU-card and are still encountering issues with access, please contact Access Services (askusyul@yorku.ca).

Students -All York University students in degree programs are issued a YU-card. The YU-card serves as the only library borrowing card for these students.  Please ensure that your preferred email account is correct in your student profile by clicking this link My Preferred email address as all library notices will be sent to it.

Faculty and Staff – Full-time and Part-time faculty and full-time staff members are eligible for the YU-card, which will serve as their library borrowing card. Please ensure that your preferred email account is correct by logging into HR Self-Serve and going into personal information, email addresses as all library notices will be sent to it.

Other Borrowers — Library cards are issued to other borrowers (such as alumni, external borrowers, etc.) at Bronfman, Frost, and Osgoode and Scott circulation desks.

My Library Account

A borrower’s My Library Account information includes record of items currently charged out to them, due dates, amounts owing in fines, holds, recalls, and intercampus borrowing requests.

  • Borrowers with a Passport York account will use this to access their library account information through the My Library Account page. They will also use it to access licensed e-resources and to use a number of online library services (e.g., holds, renewals, intercampus borrowing, and booking of group study rooms).
  • Borrowers without a Passport York account will access their My Library Account information and use some online library services (e.g., holds, renewals, intercampus borrowing) by using the barcode number (29007…) on their paper library card, together with a PIN (Personal Information Number). An initial PIN will be issued together with the paper library card only to those who do not have a Passport York account. If a PIN is forgotten, a borrower can send a message to askusyul@yorku.ca to request assistance. The library barcode number should be included in the message.

Borrowing privileges are suspended immediately for University borrowers with charges of $25.00 or more and for External borrowers with charges of $5.00 or more. The library encourages all library users to begin each new academic year with a clear account, which may save some inconvenience later in the academic year.
