Student Learning & Academic Success

The Student Learning and Academic Success Department (SLAS) is responsible for advancing a cohesive and coordinated approach to developing students’ digital and information literacies throughout programs at York University to create critical thinkers and life-long learners.

The Department focuses on collaborating with faculty on a wide range of programming, including:

Digital and Information Literacy: Our librarians collaborate with faculty from across campus to embed digital and information literacy skills into the curriculum through developing learning outcomes that strengthen these literacies, and designing assignments that teach lifelong skills to help navigate and evaluate the modern information landscape. Librarians teach classes, sessions, and workshops on digital and information literacy in a multi-disciplinary environment.

Blended Learning Modules: Our team has extensive experience developing instructional modules that supplement course materials and enhance skills in a wide range of areas, such as academic integrity, research skills, navigating the library catalogue, and more.

Develop Impactful Co-Curricular Programming: In addition to developing modules for various courses, our librarians and archivists also focus on creating a wide range of co-curricular programming available to all York students. We offer a number of different workshops ranging from research skills to presentation skills that map to skills desired by employers.
