Welcoming Teresa Lee

Welcoming Teresa Lee

We are thrilled to announce that Teresa Lee will be joining us as the new Associate Dean for Research and Open Scholarship, beginning December 1, 2024, bringing with her a wealth of experience and a dynamic vision for advancing our research initiatives and open access efforts.

Teresa Lee is currently the Knowledge Manager at the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), the cancer research arm of the World Health Organization (WHO). She headed the Publishing, Library, and Web Services unit of the Agency, and served as the internal IARC Project Manager for the Business Management System initiative, a WHO-wide overhaul of its financial, HR, procurement and travel systems.

Teresa led the Agency's efforts in scholarly communications and digital publishing. Prior to joining IARC she was the E-resource and Access Librarian (2011-2014), and the Liaison Librarian to the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences (2005-2011) at UBC.

She is a 2001 graduate of UBC's iSchool (formerly SLAIS) and was an Associate Fellow at the US National Library of Medicine in 2001-2.

Her areas of knowledge include health librarianship, e-resources, licensing, copyright, digital and intergovernmental publishing, bibliometrics, and scholarly communications.

"I am delighted to join the lively community of York University and to return to Canadian academia after nearly 11 years in the intergovernmental sector," says Teresa. "There’s something so hopeful and compelling about the academic enterprise, which is about people shaping their lives through learning. I look forward to innovating, solving problems, and building relationships with my talented colleagues at York University Libraries to ensure that the Libraries are well-aligned with and central to this mission."
